A Time of Testing for the TBC, Larry Reagan
10/05/2007 -
Individual, churches, associations, state conventions, and denominations all face times of testing in the Lord’s Kingdom Work. These times of testing are for a purpose and for our profit. James does not tell us to rejoice if we fall into trials, but when we fall into trials. Times of testing are not electives in God’s school; they are required courses.
God sends them for our enlargement to move us, to mellow us, and to mature us. He also sends trials for our enlightenment. James 1:5 gives us the key as to when and how to move forward, and when and how to wait. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…and it shall be given him.”
Those who have a Biblical worldview in Tennessee have been patient for many years. This is not our work, it is God’s work. CP money from the churches is not our money, it is God’s money. And God requires us to be faithful stewards. (1 Cor. 4:2) To be a faithful state convention, we must have faithful leaders who not only believe the Bible to be the perfect Word of God, but also expect and demand that every person called to serve must be doctrinally accountable.
Our failure to require doctrinal accountability in the past has caused great harm to God’s work in Tennessee. The messengers from the churches understand this clearly. Last year we affirmed the BF&M 2000. This year we must enforce that affirmation. It is time to show up, stand up, and speak up. It is time for changes to be made. If our executive leadership continues to resist the enforcement of doctrinal accountability, then it is time for a change in executive leadership.
We have many great servants in positions of leadership in the TBC. They are working hard to lead the TBC by biblical principles. They deserve executive leadership that agrees with the churches. Doctrinal accountability matters!
